USDA acts to deregulate corn, potato varieties

potatoesUSDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published a notice in the Federal Register today announcing that it has deregulated corn genetically engineered to increase ear biomass, effective today. In a separate Federal Register notice, APHIS announced it has reached a preliminary decision to extend its determination of non-regulated status of Innate™ genetically engineered potato to a Snowden potato variety genetically engineered to exhibit low acrylamide potential in cooked potatoes and reduced black spot. The agency will accept public comments concerning the GE potato by January 7, 2016.
