USDA’s AC21 advisory committee to meet

meetingUSDA has scheduled a meeting of its Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. December 14 and 15 in D.C. During the meeting, committee members will be updated on USDA activities to support coexistence among different agricultural production systems, consistent with AC21 recommendations contained in the committee’s previous report, and will discuss their tasks going forward. Recognizing the increasing complexity and diversity of U.S. agriculture, USDA in 2011 established this committee to address managing important issues concerning agricultural coexistence. The 22 committee members appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture  include OTA’s Executive Director/CEO Laura Batcha, and OTA members Lynn Clarkson of Clarkson Grain Company, Michael Funk of UNFI, Melissa Hughes of CROPP Cooperative/Organic Valley and OTA’s Board President, and Mary-Howell Martens of Lakeview Organic Grain LLC.
