Responding to multiple stakeholder requests, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is planning to extend the comment period on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) proposed rules beyond May 16. The announcement came last week from FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg at a Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee hearing. A Federal Register notice formally announcing the extension is expected this week.
