The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA’s) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has begun conducting its 2015 survey of certified organic crops and livestock produced in the United States. This survey will gather current data on crops, livestock, acreages, and market values for a variety of commodities. It will also survey producers regarding their production and marketing practices. The data collected will be used to inform USDA agencies like Risk Management, NRCS, and the Foreign Ag Service, as they design and develop their programs to accommodate the unique needs of organic producers. Organic farmers are asked to respond to the NASS surveys by February 19. The report from this survey will be available in September 2016. Additional information is available from NASS. Contact OTA’s Senior Crops and Livestock Specialist Nathaniel Lewis if you have additional questions.
