OTA’s Organic Political Action Committee (Organic PAC),established by OTA’s Board of Directors in October 2010, has evolved into a vehicle for OTA and its members to support candidates for Congress who are aligned with the goals of the organic business community. It is designed to provide financial assistance to candidates and incumbents for Congress who understand and support issues that affect organic agriculture and trade. There are now openings for two additional seats on the committee. Individuals, who are appointed by the OTA Board of Directors, must have demonstrated interest in government affairs and the political process and be connected to a well-developed network in his or her geographic region. They must also be willing to engage in PAC fundraising and meet fundraising goals. In addition, they must have the ability to act in a bipartisan manner, with a willingness to focus on organic agriculture and trade policy advancement as the sole criterion for a candidate’s merits in being funded. The two seats now open are targeted to individuals who are based in the Northwest and Southeast regions of the United States. Persons interested in being considered for these seats are encouraged to contact Laura Batcha.
