OTA’s Regulatory Director of Organic Standards and Food Safety will be attending a Public Meeting on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) proposed Preventive Controls for Food for Animal Food Facilities on December 6 in Sacramento, CA. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed rule to establish current good manufacturing practice and to require hazard analysis and risk based preventive controls for food for animals. The meeting is also designed to solicit oral stakeholder and public comments on the proposed rules, inform the public about the rulemaking process, and respond to questions about the proposed rules. Beginning mid-December, OTA’s Food Safety Task Force will reconvene and discuss the proposed rule in order to inform OTA’s comments that are due on February 26, 2014. If you would like to attend the public meeting, or join OTA’s Food Safety Task Force, please contact Gwendolyn Wyard.
