Tomorrow, the Senate Agriculture Committee will consider the Improving Child Nutrition Integrity and Access Act of 2016, known in shorthand as the childhood nutrition bill. This bill is a bipartisan effort released by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) and ranking member Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). Outside of school meals, the bill also extends authorization for the WIC program, sets the standards for the school fruit and vegetable snack program, and reauthorizes smaller commodity distribution programs. OTA is working to incorporate report language prioritizing organic as criteria for farm to school grants. Follow the markup at 10 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday.
