Senator Stabenow upset with eliminated funding

The fiscal cliff deal emerged late Sunday night in the Senate as result of negotiations between Senator McConnell (R-KY) and Vice-President Biden. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Stabenow spoke out from the Senate floor on the last-minute switch on the extension of the 2008 Farm Bill that eliminated funding for organic and other programs. In a statement, she said, “Rather than embrace the Senate’s bipartisan farm bill which cuts $24 billion in spending and creates certainty for our agriculture economy, Sen. McConnell insisted on a partial extension that reforms nothing, provides no deficit reduction, and hurts many areas of our agriculture economy.”
