Successful Policy Conference underscores sector’s clout

OTA held its annual Policy Conference & Hill Visit Days in Washington, D.C. last week. Here are a few of the highlights:


  1. Record-breaking attendance of nearly 200 individuals from 100 distinct organizations representing every facet of the organic value chain
  2. A robust conference featuring U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and many other thought provoking leaders. Video stream from many of the conference sessions will be available over the next few days
  3. OTA members advocated for organic at the offices of more than 130 Members of Congress
  4. A first ever Summit, hosted by OTA’s Farmers’ Advisory Council
  5. The Kingdom of Bhutan’s National Organic Programme Coordinator, Kesang Tshomo spoke about her country’s aspiration to achieve a 100% organic agricultural system
  6. A preview of OTA’s 2014 Organic Industry Survey, which showed the industry achieved 11% growth in 2013, for a total of $35 billion in consumer sales. The full Survey will be published in June
  7. A new 2014 infographic  available to download and share with your networks highlighting the latest statistics from across the sector
