USDA’s annual Agricultural Outlook Forum for the first time will include a session on the outlook for organic agriculture. The theme of this year’s Outlook Forum this Thursday and Friday in Arlington, VA, is “Transforming Agriculture: Blending Technology and Tradition.” The Thursday afternoon organic outlook session, to be moderated by OTA’s Executive Director/CEO Laura Batcha, will explore the opportunities and challenges in this rapidly growing sector. Speakers and topics for the session will be Catherine Greene, Senior Agricultural Economist for the Resource and Rural Economics Division of USDA’s Economic Service, speaking on the Outlook for Organic Agriculture; John Reganold, Regents Professor of Soil Science & Agroecology at Washington State University, speaking on organic profitability around the world, and Michael Ferry, President of WhiteWave Foods’ Horizon Organic brand, speaking on challenges of the organic supply chain.
