OTA and members of its Natural Claims Task Force will be hosting a meeting Friday at noon Pacific time) San Simeon Room B Level 4 of the Hilton to provide membership with an opportunity to learn about our work and the position we are developing in preparation of submitting comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In November 2015, FDA opened a comment period concerning the use of the marketing claim “natural” on food labels. FDA is gathering information to understand whether it should pursue rulemaking and formally define the term. OTA formed a task force to assist OTA in developing comments to FDA on the use of the term ‘natural” and to protect and uphold the meaning of “organic” claims in the marketplace. The comment deadline is May 10. OTA will be sending draft comments out to full membership in mid-April.
