In preparation for the spring 2013 National Organic Standards Board meeting, OTA is convening a task force that will focus on efforts being made to develop and implement effective non-antibiotic control to prevent fire blight in organic apple and pear production. The task force’s mandate is to assist OTA in its assessment of the antibiotic phase-out scheduled for October 2014 and the steps needed to ensure a successful transition. A mandatory introductory webinar will take place on Jan. 21, 2013. Scheduled calls will take place through mid-March. Participants must have familiarity with NOP regulations and experience with organic apple/pear production, handling, distribution or certification. Contact Gwendolyn Wyard for more details.
