This past week, Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch offered an organic seminar to approximately 130 organic grain farmers who supply Herbruck’s with organic corn for organic egg production. OTA was present to share survey findings, a summary of the organic check-off, and other policy-related items to these growers, and fielded concerns and issues facing the growth of organic grain crops in the Midwest. The following day, Michigan Organic Food and Farming Alliance hosted an Organic Intensive on organic field crops, at which OTA provided an overview of organic certification. This week, OTA is attending the Organic Egg Farmers of America’s (OEFA) 6th annual organic egg symposium in conjunction with the Midwest Poultry Federation’s expo. OTA’s Nate Lewis is speaking to over 100 organic egg producers about OTA’s efforts to grow supplies of organic grains and better support the organic egg industry. OEFA is a member of OTA’s Farmers Advisory Council and represents a large segment of the organic egg industry across the United States.
