Major campaign seeks organic solutions for citrus greening

citrus greeningCitrus greening disease, or Huanglongbing (HLB), threatens the citrus industry on a massive scale. In the past ten years, citrus greening has wiped out 90,000 acres of citrus, resulted in a loss of 8,000 jobs, and caused $4.5 billion worth of damage to the U.S. economy. The organic sector has been hit especially hard. Until now, most research on how to control this devastating disease has focused on techniques not compliant with organic standards. To address this issue, The Organic Center is organizing a campaign to partner with industry members, academics, and other non-profits to fund a major multi-year study examining organic solutions to help organic citrus growers fight the deadly disease without resorting to dangerous chemicals or genetic engineering. We have launched a crowdfunding site to help fund our research, and need your help to reach our goal.  Every dollar helps. Please visit our crowdfunding page to view the project. As an extra enticement, we have special gift rewards for our donors. Stay tuned for more information about how you can help spread the word, and get involved now!
